Well, this past Saturday my training group started up again. The summer/fall session for Marathoners In Training started bright and early. I was so ready because the winter was so bad (icy) that I decided against doing a spring half-marathon. I am looking forward to doing the Columbus Marathon this October for the second time. My only goal is to improve my time and that shouldn’t betoo hard since I came in dead last two years ago (back spasm, long story).

I love training with this group because even though I am slow, I feel comfortable with the program. There is a ton of support, great coaching, and informative sessions from experts. What makes it even more fun is that my dear hubby joined last year and did not grumble when I woke him up at 6am on Saturday (he is so not a morning exercise person). There was no rain despite the clouds but I was just so happy to be outside that I did 4.5 miles instead of the 4 planned. Yes, I’m one who barely tolerates the treadmill but appreciates it during the winter. So, if you happen to be out taking a stroll on the Olentangy Trail, you may be surprised to see how many crazy folks get up early to meet the sunrise in running shoes.

Good afternoon! I hope that everyone had a chance to enjoy the lovely snow over the weekend. I missed my long run outside and avoided the treadmill. Did a FIRM dvd instead even though I did need miles. Anyway, Mother Nature has her own plan for the weather and I have to make adjustments. Speaking of adjustments, how flexible are you when plans go awry?

It is easy to pout, tantrum and settle into a blue funk (yes, I’ve done these things too…) but it really doesn’t get anything done. After so many opportunities to try a new approach, I have finally learned that it is much more beneficial to have a Plan B (and C and D). This time of year always presents challenges for my training for a spring race so I start a few weeks earlier so I have the space to ‘make up’ days for long runs, which I prefer to do outside.

The key is keeping in mind that I love how I feel after working out so I don’t like to miss. I have a library of dvds to use when kept indoors. Breaking a good sweat seems to relax me and boosts my self-esteem. That is reason enough for me keep at it despite the weather. What do you like to do, indoors or out? I wish you much fun in whatever activity you enjoy.

Well, it looks like the January thaw that we were all enjoying here in central Ohio is over. Today, snow flurries and a strong wind blew in around lunchtime. I am determined to not complain. Afterall, I was up and out for my run while it was still mild and I enjoyed seeing the sun come up. I felt great going out to run, even if it was to the gym. Thinking about the chilly evening projected, I decided to make a special dinner for my husband ( a true meat lover) – boef bourginon. Something warm, cozy and filling just fit the bill so I’m off to do some grocery shopping. Making this for him once in a while makes both of us happy. Take care!

Well, it’s definitely January here in Ohio. fter the holidays have ended, we have snow, some areas have quite a bit. The bigger issue is the frigid temperatures! I promised myself that I would get up today at 6am to go to the gym to run/walk on the treadmill. Amazingly, I wsa actually awake before the alarm sounded and out of bed. I deliberately avoided checking the weather channel and got dressed to work out. I must say that I’m glad that I prepared my gear last night. That made a huge difference when I realized I would have to clear my car of snow before I could leave. Got it done without whining. :-)
Did 2.5 miles between the treadmill and elliptical, my favorite machine. Saw the usual crowd and no newbies. I really expected a few to show up with their resolutions stamped on their foreheads.
The weekend was good. Started my vision board for the year, did some light weights and emptied the fridge of a bunch of things I did not need to eat. Since I love to quilt and did not have much time over the past few months, I spent Friday and Saturday sewing – that was great and I went to bed smiling about what I accomplished. What have you been up to?
